Profil

My research focuses on corpus phonetics, using large-scale Mandarin speech data across three speaking styles (spontaneous, read, and broadcast) to investigate the mechanisms of tonal reduction. I also examine segmental variation and its interaction with tone-related processes.
To support this work, I have developed a reproducible processing pipeline based on WhisperX and MFA for phone-level alignment. A hands-on tutorial for this workflow is available here:
👉 From Audio to Phone-Level Alignment Using WhisperX and MFA

In parallel, I explore the history of experimental phonetics, especially pitch analysis methods before the digital age. In collaboration with Annie Rialland and Jiayin Gao , I am currently revisiting the legacy of Fu Liu (刘复, also known as 刘半农), a pioneering Chinese phonetician whose contributions merit renewed attention.

Research interests: corpus phonetics, tonal and segmental reduction, forced alignment, history of pitch analysis.
